Fencing Advance Start | Elaine Cheris

You need to move the rear foot quickly and firmly, keeping both knees flexed and pressed outward during the entire action. Keep your toes and knee of the front leg pointed forward.

Fencing Advance | Back foot| Elaine Cheris

You need to move the rear foot quickly and firmly, keeping both knees flexed and pressed outward during the entire action. Keep your toes and knee of rear leg pointed at a 90 degree angle to the direction of the advance.

Think and feel like you are moving your rear foot twice as fast and half the distance as you are moving the front, even though you actually will be moving your feet exactly the same distance. The front foot cannot make another move until the rear foot is repositioned.  Your head should remain parallel to the floor.
